Kano Police Issue Traffic Advisory As Yaryasa Bridge Collapses

THE Kano State Police Command has issued a traffic advisory following the collapse of the Yaryasa Bridge in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, a vital link connecting Kano State with Kaduna, Plateau, Benue and other parts of eastern Nigeria.

According to a statement released on Saturday, the bridge gave way after heavy rainfall, cutting off a major transport route used by commuters and commercial drivers.

In response, the Command said it had taken urgent safety measures to secure the area and minimise risks to the public. Barricades, detours and warning signs have been put in place, while police officers from the Motor Traffic Division are working alongside personnel from the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Kano Road and Traffic Agency (KAROTA) and the Transport Union to manage traffic and redirect vehicles.

The area surrounding the collapsed bridge has been fully cordoned off to prevent accidents, and motorists travelling towards Tudun Wada and beyond are being urged to comply with officers’ instructions and use designated alternative routes.

Commissioner of Police, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, PhD, appealed for patience and cooperation from road users, stressing the importance of adhering to safety guidelines. He further assured the public that the Command is collaborating with relevant agencies to reduce the impact of the disruption.

Police spokesperson SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa confirmed that updates on the situation will be provided as necessary.
