Ondo Police Expose Trafficking Ring Preying On Young Women

32 Thugs, Jailbreak Convict Nabbed In Minna Crackdown

THE Ondo State Police Command has announced the dismantling of a notorious sex trafficking syndicate that exploited young women by luring them with fake job offers and promises of social media content creation.

In a statement issued to journalists in Akure on Sunday, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Olushola Ayanlade, confirmed that one Jayeola Joshua and two accomplices had been arrested.

Police also rescued 15 young women, aged between 20 and 26, who were being held in an Alagbaka apartment for illicit activities.

The syndicate was apprehended by the command’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit, which is now pursuing other members still at large.

According to DSP Ayanlade, investigations revealed that the group targeted victims from across the country with false promises of lucrative work.

These included roles in domestic service, ushering, and even overseas placements.

The operation highlights how organised criminal elements prey on vulnerable, unsuspecting young women seeking legitimate opportunities.

“Further inquiry uncovered that the victims were coerced into sending nude images and videos, which were then sent to clients procuring sexual services,” Ayanlade stated.

He explained that the principal suspect received the largest share of the proceeds.

The criminal activity was disguised as producing ‘relationship content’ for social media, thereby misleading the public and masking its true intent.

Following their rescue, the 15 victims were taken to the Police Hospital in Akure for medical care, psychological evaluation, and counselling.

Evidence gathered indicated that the apartment was specifically rented to facilitate these activities.

Consequently, the Commissioner of Police has directed that the landlord be questioned as part of the ongoing investigation.

The CP has also ordered the case transferred to the command’s Gender Desk for further investigation, counselling, and reintegration of the victims back into society.

A marching order was issued ensuring all arrested suspects are prosecuted, demonstrating the command’s zero-tolerance stance on human trafficking and sexual exploitation.

“This reaffirms the command’s determination to eradicate criminal networks engaged in these heinous crimes,” the statement read.

The Commissioner of Police has urged parents and guardians to thoroughly verify job offers and recruitment agents before allowing their wards to travel.

The public is also encouraged to remain vigilant and provide credible information to aid in crime prevention, underscoring the vital role of community partnership in maintaining public safety.
