THE Anambra State Police Command has confirmed the recovery of two bodies believed to be part of the three Cameroonian women earlier reported kidnapped in the state.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ikenga Tochukwu, said the discovery was made on the evening of 28th November 2025 during a coordinated search operation along the Omambala River in Anambra West Local Government Area.
The operation involved officers of the Rapid Response Squad, Awkuzu, supported by professional river divers and local volunteers.
The deceased were identified by family members as Mrs Bognou Alice and her niece, Miss Sandra.
Their bodies, found in a decomposed state, have been deposited in a mortuary for further examination as investigations continue.
Two suspects, 37-year-old Nonso Augustine Akpeh and 44-year-old Kingsley Akpeh, had earlier been arrested in connection with the alleged kidnapping and are currently assisting investigators with valuable information.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has ordered an intensified search to locate the remaining missing woman and has directed all units to heighten operations aimed at apprehending the third suspect, Uchenna Nicholas Mmadu, who remains at large.
CP Orutugu extended his condolences to the grieving family and assured the public of the Command’s firm commitment to safeguarding lives, ensuring security, and pursuing justice without compromise.
The investigation remains active as the search for the final victim continues.
