THE Delta State Police Command has ordered the redeployment of the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Jesse Division, CSP Chidi Nwabuzor, and directed the X-Squad to investigate allegations of extortion involving the sum of N2.5 million following a viral video shared on social media.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola, took the decision after a woman, featured in the video, accused the DPO and two other officers—identified as Bright and Usman—of demanding N2.5 million in exchange for the release of her brother, who is currently in police custody.

According to the command, preliminary examination of the video revealed that on 1 January 2026, the youth leader of the Jesse community arrested some suspects and handed them over to the police.

Among those arrested was the complainant’s younger brother, later identified as Israel Onojeruo, aged 20.

Onojeruo was reportedly arrested based on the confession of another suspect, Okoro Desmond, who alleged that he sold a firearm to him.

The suspects were subsequently transferred to the State Anti-Cult Unit (SACU) for further investigation.
Reacting to the extortion allegation, CP Adesola, described as a community-friendly police officer, ordered immediate action.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the X-Squad was directed to investigate the matter thoroughly.

The police constable identified as Bright in the viral video has been detained at the command headquarters, while the Jesse DPO has been removed from his position and redeployed to the command headquarters pending the outcome of the investigation.

The command noted that the redeployment of the DPO also followed a series of complaints from different quarters alleging extortion and unprofessional conduct against him.

CP Adesola assured members of the public that any officer found culpable after investigation would be dealt with decisively in line with the Police Act and existing regulations, stressing that the action would serve as a deterrent to others.
