The passengers were said to be en route to Ikare-Akoko, the administrative centre of Akoko North East Local Government Area of Ondo State.

Reports indicate that the assailants forcibly led the passengers into the nearby forest.

Toyin Ogunyemi, one of the escapees, disclosed that the kidnappers have not yet initiated contact with the families of the victims for ransom.

Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) for the state, Funmilayo Odunlami-Omisanyo, confirmed the ambush.

She said that four passengers, who escaped the abduction, had informed law-enforcement agents.

“Four people came to the station and reported that, while on their way from Ado Ekiti to Ikare at Oyinmo Camp, Irun-Ado Ekiti Road, they were attacked by unknown gunmen.

“But they escaped through the bush; a police search team has been deployed to the area,” she noted.
