Suspect charged with fatal shooting of wife

CRIMESCHRONICLERS reports that charges have been filed against a suspect who shot and killed his wife at 8830 Ledge Street about 4:45 p.m. on Wednesday, July 24.

The 57-year-old suspect, Juan J. Mares-Chaves, according to Houston Police Department, was charged with murder in the 177th State District Court.

The identity of the deceased, as of when filing this report, was pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.

HPD Homicide Division Detectives S. Chettry and G. Rangel reported:

“HPD patrol officers responded to a shooting at a residence at the above address and found an unresponsive woman with multiple gunshot wounds lying in the driveway.

“Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the woman deceased.

“A male suspect, identified as Mares-Chaves, remained at the scene and told officers he shot his wife after an argument with her.

“The Harris County District Attorney’s Office was contacted and Mares-Chaves was subsequently charged.

“Mares-Chaves was then booked into the Harris County Jail.”
