The Delta State Police Command has achieved significant success in combating criminal activities across the state, including Ughelli, Sapele, Warri, and their environs.
This was disclosed during a press briefing held on Monday, 25 November 2024, in Ughelli by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.

Reaffirming the Commissioner of Police Olufemi Abaniwonda’s directive that “Deltans must sleep with their two eyes closed,” SP Edafe emphasised the command’s commitment to security during the festive Ember months.
“Our tactical commanders and officers are under strict orders to intensify operations,” he said, adding that achievements were already evident in various operations.
One notable success was the arrest of a notorious kidnapper and armed robber, Godstime Ajugba, on 18th November.
Arrested suspects
Acting on intelligence, the police recovered an arsenal of firearms, including AK-47 rifles and ammunition, from a hideout in Mosogar.
“This arrest disrupted a dangerous syndicate involved in kidnapping, car snatching, and defrauding unsuspecting victims through SIM swaps,” Edafe noted.
In another operation on 20 November, a police raid at a gang’s hideout near Warri led to a deadly shootout.
While two suspects succumbed to injuries sustained during the clash, the police recovered firearms, smartphones, and a luxury Rolex watch.
“The recovered items highlight the gang’s extensive criminal activities,” Edafe stated, adding that efforts are ongoing to apprehend fleeing members.
Arms and ammunition recovered
The command also disrupted a major drug cartel in Sapele on 13 November, arresting seven suspects and confiscating illicit drugs such as codeine, tramadol, and cannabis.
A Toyota Camry used for drug distribution was also seized.
SP Edafe revealed that the cartel’s suspected leader, known as “Obi God,” remains at large, but efforts are underway to apprehend him.
Additionally, joint efforts between the police and local hunters on 11 November resulted in the rescue of two kidnapped victims in Kokori-Samagidi.
Arms and ammunition
The operation saw one kidnapper fatally injured and the recovery of two AK-47 rifles.
Edafe commended the collaboration, saying, “This underscores the importance of community involvement in crime-fighting.”
In another case, suspects posing as transporters were arrested after a victim reported being robbed during a staged taxi ride in Effurun.
Police investigations revealed the gang also targeted clubgoers, stealing cash and valuables.
Three suspects are currently in custody, and stolen items, including iPhones, were recovered.
SP Bright concluded by reiterating the command’s dedication to a crime-free Delta State.
“As we approach the yuletide, our officers are resolute in ensuring the safety of every citizen.
These achievements are a testament to our unwavering commitment,” he declared.
