Officer Killed, Many Injured In Hostage Situation At Pennsylvania Hospital

A deadly hostage situation unfolded at UPMC Memorial hospital in York County, Pennsylvania, on Saturday, leaving one police officer dead and several others injured.
According to officials, Diogenes Archangel Ortiz entered the hospital around 10:30 a.m., armed with a handgun and zip ties.
He took several staff members hostage in the ICU, sparking a tense standoff.
Ortiz shot a doctor, nurse, and custodian, all of whom are now in stable condition.
Three police officers were also shot, including West York Borough police officer Andrew Duarte, who tragically lost his life. The other two officers are hospitalized in stable condition.
The situation came to a head when officers shot and killed Ortiz, who had zip-tied a staff member and was holding them at gunpoint.
The hospital has confirmed that no patients were injured during the incident, and the facility is now secure. State police are conducting an investigation into the incident.
