THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned a husband and wife, Baba Sule Abubakar Sadiq and Hafsat Kabir Lawal, along with two others, Abdullahi Bala and Ladani Akindele, for allegedly impersonating the wife of the Governor of Katsina State, Fatima Dikko Radda, to defraud their victims of N197,750,000.
The defendants were arraigned on six-count charges, including obtaining money by false pretense, money laundering, and stealing.
They pleaded not guilty to the charges and were remanded in a correctional facility.
According to the EFCC, Hafsat contacted the petitioners, claiming to be one of the wives of the Governor of Katsina State, and obtained N89,000,000 and another N108,000,000 from them.
Her husband, Sadiq, allegedly provided her with sim cards registered under the name Fatima Dikko Radda.
The investigation revealed that the defendants colluded to defraud their victims through various means, including impersonation.
The money obtained from the victims was deposited into the bank account of Abdullahi Bala
