Delta Police Neutralise Five Kidnappers, Arrest Three Others

THE Delta State Police Command has neutralised five suspected kidnappers and arrested three others in an intelligence-led operation in Ughelli North Local Government Area.
The operation also led to the recovery of weapons and ammunition hidden in a forest.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, operatives of the CP Special Assignment Team (CP SAT), led by ASP Julius Robinson, apprehended a notorious kidnapping ringleader, Adamu Abubakar, also known as ‘Dogo’, at the DSC Roundabout in Warri on 21st March 2025.
His arrest led to the capture of two other suspects, Abubakar Mohammed (‘Chede’) and Mohammed Bellow, at Otovwodo Park in Ughelli North.
Investigations revealed that the suspects were allegedly responsible for a series of kidnappings and armed robberies in Iyamuge, Otu-Jeremi, Warri, and Ughelli.
Acting on their confessions, police operatives raided Iyamugo Forest, where they recovered an AK-47 rifle, a pump-action gun, three locally made firearms, two magazines, 60 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, and 17 live cartridges.
As the operatives were leaving the forest, suspected gang members launched an attack, leading to a gun battle.
Five of the attackers sustained gunshot wounds and later died in hospital, while others fled the scene.
The police confirmed that the arrested suspects and recovered weapons remain in custody, with investigations ongoing.
“The deployment of the CP Special Assignment Team by Commissioner of Police, CP Abaniwonda Olufemi, has been highly effective in restoring peace to the area,” SP Bright stated.
