Man Caught While Digging Out Human Skull From Grave

A 21-year-old man, Abdullahi Babatunde, has been apprehended and charged in Lagos State for allegedly exhuming a human skull from a grave located beneath a bridge.
The incident reportedly occurred at night on March 22, 2025, at the Obasanjo Bridge in the Alagbado area of Lagos.
According to the Police, the suspect arrived at the scene around 11 p.m. equipped with tools. He was allegedly in the act of retrieving a human skull from a grave when officers from the Alagbado Division, who were on routine patrol, caught him in the act.
He was immediately taken into custody, and the human skull recovered at the scene was secured as evidence for investigation.
Following a detailed interrogation, authorities found sufficient grounds to charge him. He was subsequently arraigned before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged crime, which carries a significant prison sentence upon conviction.
The charge read:
“That you, Abdullahi Babatunde Tijani “M” on the 22nd day of March, 2025 at about 1130hrs at Obasanjo Bridge, Alagbado, Lagos State in the Ikeja Magisterial District, did unlawful dig out human skull already buried and thereby committed an offence contrary to and punishable under Section 165 (b) of the criminal laws of Lagos State of Nigeria 2015.”

He, however, pleaded not guilty.
The prosecuting officer, Supol Victor Eruada, requested a court date for the hearing, noting that the accused had pleaded not guilty. This would allow the Police to present evidence supporting the charge.
Presiding Chief Magistrate, Mrs. O. Kusanu, granted the defendant bail under the condition that he provide two sureties. These sureties must present proof of employment and tax payments, and their residential addresses will be verified by the Court.
The case was adjourned for mention, and the defendant was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Center in Lagos until he meets the bail requirements.
