The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Dr Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has reaffirmed the Nigeria Police Force’s unwavering commitment to stamping out violent crimes across the country, as recent coordinated operations in Enugu and Ogun States yielded major breakthroughs.
In a press release issued today by ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi,
Force Public Relations Officer, Force Headquarters, Abuja,
the IGP praised the success of intelligence-led, technology-driven operations that led to the rescue of four kidnapped victims, the arrest of multiple suspects, and the neutralisation of three armed criminals.
In Enugu State, swift response by police operatives, working alongside local security groups, disrupted a kidnap gang on 16 July.
Officers responded to a distress call from Okpuje-Ani community in Nsukka Local Government Area and engaged armed suspects in a forest shootout.
One kidnapper was neutralised, while others fled with gunshot wounds.
An AK-47 rifle and live ammunition were recovered at the scene.
That same day, 23-year-old Aliyu Adamu was arrested on the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway following actionable intelligence.
Upon interrogation, he confessed to multiple kidnappings and revealed he had travelled from Awka, Anambra State, to participate in criminal activity.
Further arrests were made on 15 July when two sisters, Juliet Chukwu (39) and Nancy Chukwu (40), were apprehended in connection with the kidnapping of their own relative.
The women were caught sharing a ₦10 million ransom—down from an initial demand of ₦50 million—after conspiring to abduct their kinsman.
The victim was rescued unharmed, and a Toyota Corolla and the ransom money were recovered.
Meanwhile, in Ogun State, a separate kidnapping involving three individuals around the Ajebo axis prompted urgent tactical response.
In a daring early morning raid on 20 July, police operatives tracked the suspects using advanced technology and launched a counter-offensive along the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway.
