NDLEA Arrests Lagos Pastor Over Cross-Border Drug Trafficking

LAGOS, Nigeria — Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested Prophet Adefolusho Aanu Olasele, founder and General Overseer of The Turn of Mercy Church, over his alleged role in cross-border drug trafficking.

Olasele, also known as Abbas Ajakaiye, was taken into custody on Sunday, August 3, 2025, at his church on Okun Ajah, Ogombo Road, in the Lekki area of Lagos. NDLEA officers reportedly laid siege to the premises from morning and moved in to arrest him after the evening service.

Authorities said the clergyman had been on the run for months, fleeing to Ghana to evade capture. He is accused of masterminding multiple shipments of “Ghana Loud,” a potent strain of cannabis, into Nigeria via waterways.

The NDLEA linked Olasele to two major drug seizures: 200 kilograms recovered at Okun Ajah beach on June 4, 2025, and 700 kilograms intercepted from a delivery van on July 6, 2025.

According to the agency, the suspect confessed to transporting the drugs from Ghana and admitted evading arrest on two previous occasions before hiding in the neighbouring West African country.
