Bandits Kill 13 Worshippers in Katsina Mosque Attack, Government Deploys More Security Forces

THE Katsina State Government has deployed additional security forces to Malumfashi Local Government Area following a deadly bandit attack that left 13 worshippers dead inside a mosque on Tuesday.

The state’s Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr Nasir Mu’azu, confirmed that the assault was a reprisal against the Unguwan Mantau community.

According to Mu’azu, the community had successfully defended itself two days earlier, ambushing the bandits, killing several of them, rescuing kidnapped victims and seizing weapons.

In retaliation, the bandits stormed a mosque during Fajr (dawn) prayers and opened fire indiscriminately on worshippers.

In response, security agencies — including the Nigerian Army’s Forward Operating Base and the Nigerian Police Force — have been deployed to the area to restore calm.

Mu’azu observed that bandits often exploit the dense cover of crops during the rainy season to launch attacks, but stressed that the government remains committed to bringing the perpetrators to justice.

He commended the “gallantry and disposition” of the Unguwan Mantau community for their bravery in resisting the criminals.

The state government extended its condolences to the bereaved families and reaffirmed its support for community-based security initiatives as part of its wider strategy to rid the region of criminal elements.
