Police Arrest Two Suspects In Katsina For Gun-Running

THE Nigeria Police Force has confirmed the arrest of two suspected gunrunners in Katsina State, resulting in the recovery of a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG) and more than 1,200 rounds of live ammunition.

In a statement issued by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the suspects — Abdussalam Muhammed, 25, and Aminu Mamman, 23, both residents of Baure village in Safana Local Government Area — were intercepted by operatives of the Katsina State Command.

They were arrested at about 4:35 a.m. on 1 September along the Ingawa–Karkarku village road while driving a blue Volkswagen Golf car with registration number RSH-528 BV.

A search of the vehicle uncovered one GPMG, 1,063 rounds of 7.62x39mm AK-47 ammunition and 232 rounds of 7.62x69mm PKT ammunition.

Preliminary investigations indicated that the weapons were being transported from Hadejia, Jigawa State, to Safana LGA in Katsina for distribution to criminal groups.

Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, commended the officers for their swift action and reiterated the Force’s commitment to dismantling organised criminal networks across the country.

He further appealed to the public to continue providing credible information to support security agencies in safeguarding lives and property.
