Nigerian Army Troops Rescue Abducted Senior Officer in Delta

Troops Arrest Wanted IPOB Commander, Eight Others in Imo, Ebonyi

TROOPS of the Nigerian Army’s 63 Brigade have successfully rescued a senior officer, Major M.D. Josiah, from armed kidnappers in Bomadi, Delta State.

The daring operation, launched on 9 September at Tuomor Waterside in Bomadi Local Government Area, came a day after the officer was abducted. It followed painstaking intelligence work and close collaboration with local leaders and residents.

In a statement released in Abuja on Tuesday, Captain Iliyasu Bawa Rijau, Acting Assistant Director of Army Public Relations, 63 Brigade, disclosed that soldiers closed in on the kidnappers, overwhelmed them, and secured Major Josiah’s release.

The officer, who sustained gunshot wounds during the mission, has been evacuated to a military medical facility, where he is said to be in stable condition and receiving adequate care.

Commander of 63 Brigade/Sector 1 Joint Task Force South-South Operation Delta Safe, Brigadier General M.A. Shonibare, praised the troops for their “bravery and tactical precision”, reaffirming the Nigerian Army’s commitment to protecting lives and restoring peace in Delta and beyond.

He also commended the Bomadi communities for their support, describing their cooperation as evidence of growing trust between the military and civilians in tackling crime and insecurity.

“The success of this mission shows our capacity to respond swiftly and decisively to security threats. The Nigerian Army will not relent in its duty to defend the nation,” Brigadier General Shonibare assured.

The rescue highlights the Army’s determination to dismantle criminal networks in the Niger Delta and safeguard both citizens and personnel.
