A suspected serial killer and prison escapee has been arrested in Agbor after attempting to sell the mobile phone of a woman he had allegedly murdered a day earlier.

The Delta State Police Command confirmed that on 24 October 2025, operatives moved swiftly after the Divisional Police Officer, Agbor, received a report that one Michael Ezenwai was trying to sell a suspected stolen phone.

He was immediately arrested.

During questioning, the device rang, and a caller identified it as belonging to her sister, Christabel Egedefe. Acting on the tip-off, officers visited Christabel’s residence, where she was found dead in her apartment.

Ezenwai later confessed that he had gone to rob the 26-year-old on 23 October and killed her when she refused to surrender her motorcycle keys.

He also made away with her phones.

Further police investigations revealed that Ezenwai is a notorious serial killer and was part of the gang responsible for the 2020 rape and murder of UNIBEN student, Uwaila Omorzuwa, who was assaulted inside a church.

He also escaped from the Oko Correctional Centre during the EndSARS jailbreak of the same year.

Police say the suspect is in custody while investigations continue.
