Anambra Police Condemn Church Attack, Vow To Hunt Down Assailants

Anambra Police Uncover Illegal Factory Producing Fake Drinks, Arrest Suspect

THE Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, has condemned the partial burning of a church in Lilu community, Ihiala Local Government Area, describing the incident as a “heinous and abominable act” carried out by armed criminals.

The attack, which occurred on Sunday morning, tragically led to the death of one worshipper while several others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

In a statement issued on Monday, the Commissioner said the assault on innocent citizens gathered for worship was “not only an attack on the community but a grave affront to our shared values of peace, sanctity of life, and freedom of worship.”

The Police Command extended its condolences to the victims’ families and the entire Lilu community, assuring that officers will “relentlessly hunt down the perpetrators” and ensure they face justice.

The CP reiterated that the security agencies will not allow criminal elements to cause fear or destabilise the peace being worked hard to maintain across the state.

According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, security presence has been strengthened in and around the affected area.

“The Command has intensified intelligence-driven operations, deployed the Joint Security Team, and strengthened surveillance across the community,” he stated.
“Operatives are following every lead and no resource will be spared in ensuring that those responsible are apprehended and made to face the full weight of the law.”

Residents were urged to remain calm and cooperate with the Joint Security Team by sharing any useful information to assist investigations.

The Command reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to safeguarding lives and property in Ihiala and throughout Anambra State.
