THE Delta State Police Command has stepped up efforts to protect schools across the state, holding a high-level security meeting with heads of public and private educational institutions to address growing concerns over student safety.
The meeting, held on Wednesday 17 December 2025, brought together 62 school heads and teachers as part of a proactive policing strategy aimed at preventing security breaches in schools.

It was convened on the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, and led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi.
Also in attendance were the Coordinator of the Safe School Initiative in Delta State, ACP George Efeizomor, alongside key stakeholders from the education sector.
Discussions focused on practical measures to strengthen school security, particularly in light of recent cases of student abductions reported in other parts of the country.
Proposed steps included proper fencing of school premises, installation of surveillance cameras, engagement of local vigilante groups, and closer collaboration between schools and security agencies.

Participants also raised emerging challenges such as parental interference in school security policies and the misuse of mobile phones during school hours.
Addressing the gathering, ACP Efeizomor assured school administrators of sustained police support and encouraged them to maintain direct communication with their respective Divisional Police Officers and Area Commanders.
Emergency control room numbers were shared to improve prompt reporting and ensure rapid response to any security threats.
Speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, DCP Adejobi reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

He disclosed that adequate police deployments, intelligence-led patrols and rapid response mechanisms have been activated across Delta State, with particular focus on schools during the Ember Months.
The Delta State Police Command emphasised that the state remains relatively peaceful and called on school administrators, parents and community stakeholders to continue supporting security initiatives aimed at protecting students, teachers and educational facilities.
