NSCDC Confirms Killing Of Eight Officers In Edo State Attack

Muhammed Abubakar, Reporting

THE Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has announced the deployment of 4,000 personnel throughout the Federal Capital Territory to ensure safety during the Christmas and New Year period.

The directive was issued by the FCT Commandant, Dr. Olusola Odumosu, PhD, who stated the move was to protect lives, property, and Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) before, during, and after the festivities.

Personnel have been strategically stationed across all area councils, covering major roads, residential areas, and known flashpoints to deter crime and maintain public order. The operation draws on officers from specialised units including the Arms Squad, Counter-Terrorism Unit (CTU), and the Female Strike Force.

Security has been reinforced around vulnerable locations such as churches, shopping centres, markets, parks, and key infrastructure. Undercover operatives have also been deployed for covert surveillance and intelligence gathering. Particular attention is being paid to security black spots, including abandoned buildings, to prevent their use for criminal activities.

Commandant Odumosu issued firm instructions to all Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to ensure a visible security presence and effective supervision. He warned against any security lapses, stating: “All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of security breach.”

He further urged personnel to act professionally, collaborate with other agencies, and strictly adhere to rules of engagement, cautioning against the harassment of residents or accidental discharge of firearms.

Reassuring the public, Dr. Odumosu said the Corps is fully prepared for a secure festive season but called on residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity promptly.

“My personnel are ready to ensure a peaceful celebration, but residents also have a role to play. Be proactive, vigilant, and willing to cooperate with security agencies for our collective safety,” he added.

The Commandant also issued a stern warning to criminals, noting that covert and patrol teams have been mobilised and would not hesitate to arrest and prosecute offenders.

He concluded by wishing FCT residents a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.

The statement was signed by the FCT Command’s Public Relations Officer, DSC Monica Ojobi.
