Delta Police Arrest Suspected Armed Robber, Recover Locally Made Pistol

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber and recovered a locally made pistol during a routine patrol in Ozoro, in what authorities described as another breakthrough in the fight against violent crime.

The arrest was confirmed in a statement issued on 12 February 2026 by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Aina Adesola.

According to the statement, the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Friday Oghenemaro, was apprehended on 9 February 2026 at about 2.00 p.m. by operatives attached to the Ozoro Division.

The officers were said to have been on a proactive township patrol along Hospital Road, Ozoro, when they intercepted the suspect, who was reportedly in the company of two other individuals.

“A search conducted on the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made Beretta pistol,” the statement read. “The suspect was immediately taken into custody for further investigation.”

Preliminary investigations allegedly revealed that the suspect is a member of the Aye confraternity and had been in possession of the firearm due to his affiliation with the group.

Police sources disclosed that the suspect reportedly admitted to having possessed the weapon since his secondary school days.

The two other individuals who were with him at the time of arrest are also being investigated.

The Command confirmed that investigations are ongoing.
Commending the officers involved in the operation, CP Aina Adesola praised their vigilance and professionalism, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to sustain its offensive against criminal elements in the state.

“The Command will continue to intensify visibility policing, intelligence-led operations and targeted patrols to deny criminal elements any opportunity to operate within Delta State,” the Commissioner stated.

He also urged residents to remain law-abiding and to support the police with credible and timely information.

“Collective cooperation remains critical in sustaining peace and security across Delta State,” he added.

The Delta State Police Command reiterated its commitment to ensuring the safety of lives and property across the state.
