NO fewer than 10 people have been killed in separate attacks that took place on Sunday evening in the Barkin-Ladi and Riyom local government areas of Plateau State.
According to reports, nine people were brutally killed on Sunday evening at Ratatis, in the Dorowa Babuje area of Barkin-Ladi LGA, when gunmen struck the community at approximately 7:27 pm.
Several others sustained serious injuries and are currently receiving treatment in nearby hospitals.
It was also understood that one person was killed in Jol, in Riyom local government area, on the same day.
The Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), led by Barrister Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, has condemned the fresh attacks that left ten people dead in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
In a statement issued to journalists on Monday in Jos, the state capital, the BYM National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, warned that the separate attacks have further heightened fears over the worsening security situation in Berom land.
The BYM has expressed deep concern over what it described as a recurring cycle of official condemnations and promises of investigation, without tangible arrests or prosecutions.
The Association warned that the continued failure to bring perpetrators to justice has emboldened armed attackers, leading to repeated assaults on innocent farming communities, the destruction of livelihoods, and the loss of lives across Plateau State and the Middle Belt.
“BYM calls on the Federal and Plateau State Governments to move beyond routine assurances and take decisive action by identifying, arresting, and prosecuting those responsible,” the statement read.
“The Association calls for the urgent deployment of adequate security personnel to vulnerable communities, particularly in Barkin-Ladi and Riyom LGAs, to prevent further bloodshed.”
