ASABA – No more soft pedal. The Delta State Police Command has dragged 68 traffic offenders before mobile courts in Warri and Asaba, fining them heavily for everything from covered number plates to driving against traffic.
Working with seven mobile court judges and magistrates, the police swept through major roads in a joint operation aimed at crushing the rising wave of traffic violations across the state.
So, who were the 68? According to SP Bright Edafe Bright, Police Public Relations Officer, Delta State Command, Asaba, 15 persons were nailed for driving without registration numbers, another 15 for obstruction on the roads.
Thirteen had their number plates covered, 11 drove without a valid licence, seven used unauthorised number plates, five drove against traffic, and two were caught illegally blasting sirens and revolving lights.
According to the Command, unregistered or covered number plates are a red flag — often used to dodge security checks and commit crimes.
All offenders paid fines based on the Delta State Traffic Management Law and National Road Traffic Regulations.
The police also confirmed stronger teamwork with FRSC and DESTMA to sustain the heat on violators. “Zero tolerance” remains the mantra, and residents are advised to get their papers right.
