Two More Arrested Over Mistaken Identity Killing As Delta Police Intensify Raids

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State Police Command has arrested two additional suspects in connection with the brutal murder of a 31-year-old man in January, following intensified raids on criminal hideouts in the Ughelli and Warri areas.

The development comes as part of a sustained crackdown on confraternity violence, with police emphasising the importance of proactive operations—including intelligence gathering, raids, and stop-and-search duties—in dismantling criminal networks and restoring public safety.

According to a statement from the Command, the deceased, Alex Adanike, was killed on 20th January 2026 by members of the Supreme Vikings Confraternity, also known as Aro Bagger. The victim was mistaken for his twin brother, Okpako Adanike, whom the gang had allegedly intended to target. He was shot and stabbed in what police described as a gruesome attack.

Earlier investigations led to the arrest of two suspects, Warri Ochuko and Lucky Okohwoake, both of whom reportedly confessed to their involvement in the killing.

The recent raids, conducted under the direction of Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, who heads the department of operations, yielded further results. Officers apprehended Tega Micheal, 26, of No 22 Umutu Area, Ughelli, and Tena Sagbene, 32, of No 26 Oseri Street, Ughelli. Both were identified by the suspects already in custody as members of the same gang involved in the murder.

All four suspects have now confessed to the crime. On 31st March 2026, they were arraigned before the Ughelli High Court and remanded in prison custody.

The Command reiterated its commitment to proactive policing, stating that such operations serve not only to apprehend offenders but also to prevent criminal activity before it occurs, thereby restoring peace and order across the state.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, commended officers for their dedication in sustaining the fight against crime and taking the battle to the doorsteps of criminals, making the state inhospitable for those who flout the law. He also urged residents—both Deltans and non-residents alike—to remain law-abiding and to respect the rule of law.
