Four Arrested As Delta Police Halt Cult Initiation, Seize Weapons Cache

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

ASABADelta State Police Command has arrested four suspects in two separate operations targeting cult activity, disrupting an alleged initiation ceremony and taking a self-confessed cult leader off the streets, the force announced today.

In the first operation on 11th April 2026 at approximately 11.45am, operatives from Delta Shield on surveillance patrol in Orerokpe, Okpe Local Government Area, intercepted one Peter Onajite, aged 32.

A search of the suspect uncovered a locally made double barrel cut-to-size pistol, two live cartridges, one expended cartridge, and several sachets of suspected Tramadol.

During preliminary questioning, Mr Onajite reportedly confessed to being the leader of the Juris Confraternity. He remains in custody as investigations continue.

The following day, officers attached to Ibusa Police Station received intelligence about a suspected cult initiation involving one Chinedu Onyeama — currently at large — and members of the Aiye cult group.

At approximately 1pm on 12th April, police mobilised to Jordan Road in Ibusa, where they arrested three suspects, including one female.

A search of the premises yielded an English-made Beretta pistol with one round of live ammunition, three battle axes, one hammer, one cutlass, and thirty-nine firelighters.

All three suspects are in custody, and a manhunt is underway for Mr Onyeama.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, commended the operatives for their professionalism and swift response.

He reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing and warned that the police would continue to clamp down on cult-related activities and other violent crimes across the state.

SP Bright Edafe, Police Public Relations Officer for Delta State Command, confirmed the arrests in a statement issued from Asaba.
