ASABA — The Delta State Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has ordered senior officers to provide maximum security for all churches, mosques, schools and correctional centres across the state, warning that professional misconduct will not be tolerated and that supervising officers will be held vicariously liable.
At a high-level meeting convened on Wednesday, 3 June 2026, CP Oyeniyi issued marching orders to area commanders and divisional police officers (DPOs) to identify every such facility in their areas of responsibility and ensure regular security visits.
The Commissioner, who was joined by the command management team, tactical commanders and heads of department, also expressed alarm at a rise in murder cases in the state. He directed DPOs to engage more actively with community stakeholders and to sensitise residents on the need to avoid escalating disputes that could lead to violence or death.
“Professional misconduct by any officer will not be tolerated, and supervising officers will be held vicariously liable,” the CP said, stressing strict compliance with Nigeria Police Force regulations.
He voiced concern over a lack of community engagement by some DPOs and ordered that all divisional officers must hold regular talks with critical stakeholders to improve security consciousness.
In a further push for discipline and public trust, CP Oyeniyi ordered that all officers must appear smart and neat at all times and must always wear their name tags – either on their uniform or on approved tactical vests. Any officer found without a name tag will be sanctioned, and their supervisor will again face vicarious liability.
