Four Arrested In Anambra Over Girlfriend’s Murder, Brutal Abuse Of Boy, 10

THE Anambra State Police Command has taken four individuals into custody following two separate but equally disturbing cases: the alleged murder and secret burial of a young woman, and the horrific abuse of a 10-year-old boy.

In the first incident, 33-year-old Ifechukwu Okechukwu is being investigated for the suspected murder of his 23-year-old girlfriend, whom he is then alleged to have buried secretly.

The case came to light after concerned members of the public provided credible information, leading to the suspect’s arrest.

In a separate case, police have also arrested Chukwudi Chukwuyere, 40; his wife, Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere, 30; and 16-year-old Arum Goodluck, over allegations of severe abuse of a young boy.

The victim, aged 10, was found with severe injuries across his body at Odume Layout, Isiowulu.

According to a statement issued on Monday by the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, officers attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) have taken over both cases and launched detailed inquiries.

“During interrogation, Mrs Chisom Chukwuyere allegedly confessed to using burning plastic to inflict burns on the victim,” Ikenga said. “The child has since been provided with necessary medical care and support, while police operatives continue gathering evidence to facilitate the prosecution of all suspects.”

The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, CP Ikioye Orutugu, reassured residents that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property. “We will ensure that perpetrators of crime are brought to justice,” he said.

The CP also urged the public to continue supporting the police and other security agencies by reporting suspicious activities and criminal conduct via the command’s emergency lines or at the nearest police station.

“We value the cooperation of residents and remain dedicated to maintaining peace, security, and public safety across the state,” he added.

The command hailed residents for their vigilance and timely provision of information, which, it said, continues to assist in uncovering criminal activity and apprehending offenders.
