WARRI — Police in Delta State have apprehended two brothers in connection with the alleged sexual assault of a teenage girl, in a case that has sent shockwaves through the local community.

Emmanuel Eugene, 18, and Kelvin Eugene, 20, were taken into custody following reports that they had raped a 15-year-old girl at a residence on Okoro Street, Third Marine Quarters, Third Marine Gate, in Warri South Local Government Area.

The incident is believed to have occurred in June 2026, with the teenager allegedly subjected to a harrowing ordeal that forced her to flee her home.

According to a source close to the family, the victim’s mother had left her daughter at home to care for her younger sibling while she went to the local market.

However, upon her return, she discovered the teenager had vanished without a trace.

A frantic search was launched by the family, who scoured the neighbourhood for any sign of the missing girl.

Their efforts were rewarded when a neighbour came forward with vital information, claiming the teenager had been seen near the suspects’ residence the previous day.

The teenager was eventually discovered hiding inside a church building in the Effurun area, after a woman who had come to sweep the premises raised the alarm and alerted the family.

“The teenager initially refused to speak about what had happened to her, but after repeated persuasion and counselling from family members, she eventually opened up,” the source told our correspondent.

“She accused the two brothers of sexually assaulting her.

She explained that she fled because she was terrified and deeply ashamed to return home.”

The source further revealed that the suspects, when confronted, admitted to having “carnal knowledge” of the teenager but vehemently denied any wrongdoing, insisting she had come to them willingly.

Delta State Police Command’s spokesperson, Superintendent Bright Edafe, confirmed the incident, stating in a brief text message: “Confirmed.”

Meanwhile, the victim’s mother has issued a passionate appeal to law enforcement agencies, calling for a thorough and impartial investigation into the matter.

“We want justice for my daughter,” she said. “The authorities must ensure that the full weight of the law is brought to bear on whoever is responsible for this heinous crime.”

The brothers are currently being held in police custody as investigations continue.
