ABUJA – Operatives of the Federal Capital Territory Police Command have arrested a 26-year-old man for allegedly attempting to steal a vehicle from the premises of the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit (NFIU) in Maitama, Abuja.
The suspect, identified as Thankgod Ayuba, who reportedly has no fixed address, was apprehended on Wednesday, 22nd July 2026, at approximately 12:35 pm after a staff member of the NFIU raised the alarm.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, the NFIU employee noticed an unfamiliar individual trying to gain access to a parked vehicle within the office premises while preparing to drive out.
“A patrol team from Maitama Police Division was immediately dispatched to the scene,” the statement read. “The suspect was arrested while attempting to force entry into a black Toyota Venza belonging to an NFIU staff member using a fabricated master key.”
The suspect is currently in police custody and will face charges in court once investigations are concluded.
