THE Delta State Police Command has dealt another decisive blow to criminal elements targeting the nation’s power infrastructure, confirming the arrest of two suspects in connection with the vandalism of electric cables.
Acting on a tip-off, operatives from the Kwale Police station, alongside local vigilantes, swooped on the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road on the morning of 25th June. The suspects were allegedly caught red-handed dismantling high-tension cables.

Upon spotting the security team, the two men—identified as Osakwe Sunday (28) and Ekene Obocha (34)—attempted to flee. A brief operation ensued, resulting in one of the suspects sustaining an injury.

He is currently receiving treatment at a medical facility, while his accomplice remains in police custody.
A significant haul of vandalised cables has been recovered and is being held as evidence.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, has issued a stern warning to those involved in the destruction of public assets.

He stressed that the Command remains resolute in its mission to hunt down and prosecute offenders.
“We will not relent,” CP Oyeniyi stated.
He also appealed to residents to continue providing timely and credible intelligence to help the police secure critical infrastructure.
