THE Delta State Police Command has arrested six suspects and recovered quantities of suspected illicit drugs, including Tramadol and Rohypnol, during a raid on a store in Agbor.
The operation was carried out by operatives of the Department of Operations while on routine patrol along Alegwe Street, off Owa Road, Agbor, following credible intelligence.
According to a statement issued on Thursday by the Command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the operatives raided the store after receiving information that it was allegedly being used for the sale of illicit drugs.
Six suspects were arrested during the operation: Anabel Haruna, 18; Terhemen Faith, 19; Kaityo Abigail, 23; Iorkee Eunice, 26; Osomuri Emmanuel, 31; and a 15-year-old female juvenile whose identity was withheld by the police.
A subsequent search of a vehicle linked to the suspects reportedly led to the recovery of quantities of Tramadol, Rohypnol and other suspected illicit substances.
The police said the suspects and recovered exhibits remained in custody as investigations continued.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Samuel E. Erale, psc, mnips, warned against the sale and distribution of illicit drugs across Delta State.
Erale said the command would continue to identify and dismantle drug distribution networks operating in the state, noting that the proliferation of illicit drugs fuels violent crime and other forms of criminality.
He directed police operatives across the command to intensify intelligence gathering and enforcement against suspected drug dealers and their networks.
The commissioner stressed that Delta State would not be allowed to become a safe haven for illicit drug trade or any form of criminal enterprise.
