The Bayelsa State Police Command says it has arrested two suspects, a father and son in possession of four (4) single-barrel guns concealed in a sack as sticks.
In a statement by the Command’s Public Relations officer Musa Mohammed, the Anti-Vice Unit, while conducting a routine stop and search operation along the Igbogene–Tombia Expressway, Yenagoa, intercepted a tricycle conveying two suspects: A father, Tibi and his son Oyabrade all in Ekeremor Local Government Area of Bayelsa state.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the suspects were allegedly travelling to Abua, Rivers State, when a search was conducted on the tricycle. During the search, four (4) single-barrel guns were concealed inside a sack and covered with sticks in an attempt to escape police arrest.
The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Yenagoa, for discreet investigation to ascertain the source of the firearms and identify any other persons connected with the offence.
The Command reiterates its commitment to combating the proliferation of illegal firearms and other violent crimes across the state.
