The Akwa Ibom State Police Command says it has arrested one Chief Edet, the village Head of Asik Ubofa a Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, Mbo Local Government Area of the state for being in possession of allegedly illegal arms AK- 47 rifle.
According to a statement by Police Public Relations Officer, Timfon John, the Village Head of Asik Ubofa Fishing Settlement in Effiat Clan, Chief Edet, 60, was alleged to be in possession of an illegal firearm.
After receiving the intelligence, the Commissioner of Police, CP, Baba Mohammed Azare, directed Operatives of the Command to immediately embark on a coordinated operation to verify the information and take necessary action.
Consequently, the detectives swung into action and stormed the suspect’s location and successfully recovered one AK-47 rifle and two empty magazines.
The statement adds that the suspect is currently in police custody while discreet investigation has commenced to ascertain the source of the firearm, determine his motives, and apprehend other possible accomplices for prosecution.
