THE Delta State Police Command has rescued a 60-year-old kidnap victim, arrested 10 suspects and recovered a locally made firearm and suspected illicit drugs in separate operations across the state.
The operations were carried out in Agbor, Abbi and Oghara on September 4, 2026, according to a statement issued by the command’s Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe.
Kidnap victim rescued in Agbor
Operatives of the Agbor Division, acting on intelligence following a report of the abduction of a 60-year-old man, mobilised to Alisime Village at about 6pm on September 4 alongside forest guards and local security personnel.
The operatives engaged the suspected kidnappers and successfully rescued the victim unharmed.
The suspects reportedly fled into the bush with suspected gunshot injuries.
One mobile phone and an ATM card were recovered during the operation, while the area was cordoned off as security operatives commenced a manhunt for the fleeing suspects.
Ten suspects arrested in Abbi
In a separate operation at about 9.30pm, operatives of the Command Anti-Cult Unit (CACU), Ozoro, raided a brothel in Abbi following credible intelligence concerning a suspect wanted in connection with an arson case in Owhelogbo Community in August.
Ten suspects, comprising seven females and three males, were arrested during the raid.
The police said quantities of Tramadol, Swinol, Canadian Loud and weeds suspected to be Indian hemp were recovered.
The suspects are currently undergoing profiling, while those found culpable will be prosecuted, the command said.
Firearm recovered in Oghara
Meanwhile, operatives of the Oghara Division, working alongside a civilian anti-cult group, recovered a locally made cut-to-size firearm following a reported scuffle involving about eight persons along Ibori Road, Oghara.w
The suspects reportedly fled after sighting the patrol team.
During the escape, one of them, identified by the alias “Highest”, allegedly discarded the firearm, which was subsequently recovered by the security operatives.
Efforts are ongoing to identify and arrest the fleeing suspects.
The Commissioner of Police, Delta State Command, CP Samuel E. Erale, commended the police operatives and other security personnel involved in the operations.
He directed that efforts be intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects and assured residents that the command would continue to strengthen intelligence-led operations, raid identified criminal hideouts and sustain patrols across the state.
CP Erale also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and provide the police with credible information that could assist in preventing and detecting crime.
