OPERATIVES of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected cultists and a native doctor in separate sting operations that led to the recovery of dangerous weapons including pump-action guns, a locally made firearm, and a battle axe.
According to a press release issued on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, the arrests were made as part of the Command’s continued efforts to clamp down on criminal elements in the state.
On June 18, 2025, at about 12:20pm, officers attached to the Eagle-Net Surveillance Team, while conducting a routine stop-and-search operation at Otokutu Bridge in Warri, intercepted a black Toyota Corolla with registration number RSH 90 RC.
The vehicle was driven by one Telvin Richmond, 27, and accompanied by one Frank Obiorah, 26 — both residents of Opete by Otokutu.
A thorough search of the car led to the discovery of a locally made cut-to-size gun, two yellow hand-bands inscribed with “NBM” (Neo Black Movement), a battle axe, a wooden pistol, and other items hidden within the vehicle’s door compartments.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspects are members of the Aiye confraternity.
One of the suspects confessed to purchasing the firearm in 2024 for N87,000 from an individual who is currently on the run.
Both suspects are in custody as investigations continue.
In a related operation, on June 14, 2025, at about 6:30am, operatives from the Special Anti-Kidnapping and Cybercrime Squad, acting on credible intelligence, raided the residence of one Okonji Chimeze, a 47-year-old native doctor, at Umuehe Quarter in Ibusa.
During the search, executed with a warrant, officers discovered two automatic pump-action guns and a cutlass hidden inside the ceiling of the suspect’s room.
