28-Year-Old Charged With Sexually Assaulting 10-Year-Old

A 28-year old man has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for sexually assaulting his neighbour’s 10-year old girl.

Our source, P.M.EXPRESS, reported that the incident happened at Oluwani Street, Ladipo, Lagos, where they reside.

The suspect, Babatunde Olawale, on several occasions, lured the girl into his apartment, sexually assaulted her and threatened to hurt her if she ever disclose it to anyone.

The victim, however, revealed to her parents how the suspect had been defiling her.

The suspect taken into custody after the matter was reported to law enforcements in the area.

He was then transferred to the Gender Section of the Command for interrogation over his alleged conduct.

The suspect, found culpable, was charged before the Ogba Magistrate Court for the alleged offence.

The charge stated:

“That you, Babatunde Olawale ‘m’, sometimes in the month of July, 2024, at Oluwani Street, Ladipo. Lagos State, in the Lagos Magisterial district, did defile the victim by forcefully having sexual intercourse with her severally without her consent and thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 137 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State of Nigeria 2016”.

The Court did not take his plea when he was arraigned following a motion moved by the prosecutor, Inspector John Iberedem, asking the Court to refer the matter to the DPP for legal advice.

The Presiding Magistrate, Mrs. Ex. Kubenije, ordered his remand in custody at the correctional center at Kirikiri town, Lagos, pending the outcome of the DPP’s advice and directed the prosecutor to duplicate the file and send it to the DPP.

The matter was adjourned till 15th October, 2024, for mention for the report of the DPP’s advice to be available, which will determine if the matter will be transferred to the High Court or not over jurisdiction.
