The first operation occurred on the evening of 28th October 2024, as officers engaged in a fierce shootout with suspected criminals on Ewheru-Patani Road, Ughelli Local Government Area (LGA).

During the encounter, CP-SAT operatives were ambushed but managed to retaliate, wounding two suspects in the crossfire.

One AK-47 rifle and a Beretta pistol, both loaded with live ammunition, were recovered from the suspects.

Following the shootout, the injured suspects were taken to General Hospital Ughelli but were later pronounced dead.

Preliminary investigations linked the deceased suspects to a series of violent crimes in Delta State, including attacks along Warri-Sapele Road and incidents in the Oghara and Ughelli areas.

“These suspects have been a source of terror in several communities,” the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, said in a statement on Wednesday.

On 4th November, CP-SAT conducted a second operation targeting suspected cultists in Oton community and Sapele town.

Acting on credible intelligence, they arrested five individuals reportedly affiliated with the Supreme Vikings Confraternity.

One suspect, Eremoje Dudun Oritsedere, also known as “General,” was alleged to possess the gang’s AK-47 rifle.

The arrests followed confessions from a previously detained gang member, Philip Okunumah, who provided information on cult-related killings.

During this operation, a Beretta pistol and an abandoned Toyota Corolla with registration KWL 635 BU, suspected to be a stolen vehicle, were recovered by CP-SAT.

Delta State Police Commissioner, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, commended the operatives for their bravery and appealed to parents to caution their children against cult activities.

“It is essential for parents and guardians to be vigilant and discourage any involvement in cultism,” he advised.

As investigations continue, the police urge the public to report any suspicious activity to help maintain peace and security in Delta State.
