Man, 27, Arrested for Rape and Robbery In Lagos

A 27-year-old man, Samuel Oduok, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State with attempted murder after allegedly luring a woman to a guest house, drugging her, raping her, and subsequently robbing her of an iPhone before fleeing the scene.
P.M. Express reports that the incident occurred at Emkay Guest House, located in the Oregun area of Ikeja, Lagos.
According to the police, the suspect met the victim on Facebook, began chatting with her, and later invited her to the guest house for a physical meeting.
While at the location, he reportedly drugged her food and drink, causing her to lose consciousness. He then took her to a room, raped her, and stole her iPhone before escaping unnoticed by the guest house management.
The matter was reported to the police, who had been tracking him until recently when he contacted another woman in the Alausa area of Ikeja. He was subsequently identified and arrested for interrogation over his alleged actions.
During interrogation, Oduok denied the allegations until the victim was brought before him, and CCTV footage from the guest house implicated him further.
The police found sufficient evidence against him and charged him at the Ogba Magistrates’ Court with attempted murder, robbery, and rape under the Lagos State Criminal Laws.
The charges include allegations of drugging the victim to cause grievous harm, robbing her of an iPhone 12 Pro Max worth ₦800,000 while armed, and unlawfully having carnal knowledge of her without consent.
The court did not take his plea following a motion by the prosecutor, Supol Akeem Raji, requesting the matter be referred to the Directorate of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs O. Kusanu ordered Oduok’s remand in a correctional centre pending the DPP’s advice. The prosecutor was directed to duplicate the case file and forward it to the DPP.
The case was adjourned for mention. The defendant remains in custody, awaiting the DPP’s report, which will determine if the case will proceed to the High Court.
