Two self-acclaimed pastors arrested with fetish items in Rivers

TWO suspected, self-acclaimed pastors, Prophet Bassey Umoren and Prophet Elijah Anietie, have been àrrested by the Rivers State Police Command over possession of fetish items in the Rumuduru community of Obio/Akpor Local Government Area.

The suspects, who operated separate churches, were handed over to the police by residents of Rumuduru, led by their President, Henry Worlu, on January 20.

The pastors, aged 60 and 50, lead two churches: God’s Deliverance Apostolic Church and Power House of Glory International Gospel Church.

Residents of the community became suspicious of their activities and reported them to the police.

The police spokesperson, SP Grace Iringe-Koko, said the suspects were found with various items, including a firearm cartridge, small wooden caskets, a sword, a fake Nigerian Navy identification card, and thousands of photographs.

Other items seized included children’s footwear, a police lanyard, and various crucifix and spiritual materials.

During interrogation, Bassey admitted to using spiritual materials to heal individuals suffering from various spiritual afflictions.

He also claimed to have used a small casket and “miracle life oil” to pray for people with mental issues, promising recovery within three months.

The police are currently investigating the matter, with the suspects and recovered exhibits in custody.
