Man Arrested for Severing Wife’s Wrist

THE Enugu State Police Command, through its officers attached to the Okpuje Division, arrested a 33-year-old man, Sunday Echege, on 26 January 2025.

The suspect, a resident of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani, Nsukka LGA, was apprehended for severing the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege.

The arrest was facilitated with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community, and the machete used in the attack was recovered from the suspect.

Preliminary investigations revealed that Echege, who has admitted to the crime, claimed his actions stemmed from suspicions that his wife was involved in an extramarital affair.

Confirming the arrest, the command’s spokesperson, SP Daniel Ndukwe, stated that the suspect would be charged in court following the conclusion of investigations.

Ndukwe added that the state’s Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, had instructed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to carry out a thorough and timely investigation to ensure the suspect’s prosecution.

He also urged couples to resolve their differences through love, understanding, and lawful methods, rather than resorting to violent and criminal behaviour.
