Woman Charged in Lagos for Alleged N50m Jewellery Theft

A 29-year-old woman, Ayobami Glory, has been arrested and charged in Lagos State for allegedly stealing assorted jewellery worth N50 million belonging to Dechisan Mega Plaza, represented by Uchenna Ochisi, at the Trade Fair Complex.

The incident occurred on 9 April 2025 at the Trade Fair Complex, Lagos. Police reports indicate that Glory, along with others still at large, allegedly broke into the premises where the jewellery was kept, stole the items, and fled without the complainant’s knowledge. Upon discovering the theft, the complainant was unable to reach Glory, who had cut off all communication and gone into hiding.

The case was subsequently reported to the Commissioner of Police Special Squad, which launched an investigation.

The operatives later apprehended Glory, who was detained for questioning. Following interrogation, the police found her culpable and charged her before the Ogba Magistrates’ Court for conspiracy and theft—offences punishable under Sections 411, 281(1), and 287 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The charge sheet reads in part:

“That you, Ayobami Glory, and others still at large, on 9th April 2025, at about 6:21 p.m. at Trade Fair Market, Lagos, did conspire to commit felony to wit: stealing.”

Glory pleaded not guilty to the charges. The prosecutor, Supol Philip Ademigbuji, requested a hearing date to enable the police to present evidence.

Presiding Magistrate Mrs O. Kusanu granted the defendant bail with two sureties, who must provide proof of means of livelihood and tax payment, with their addresses to be verified by the court. The case was adjourned for mention, while Glory was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the fulfilment of her bail conditions.
