Delta Police Nab Notorious Drug Baron, Seize Cache Of 400 Live Cartridges

IN a significant twin blow against criminal networks, the Delta State Police Command has arrested a suspected ammunition runner with 400 rounds of live cartridges and a notorious drug dealer in separate intelligence-led operations.

Under the direction of Commissioner of Police, CP Olufemi Abaniwonda, officers from ‘C’ Division in Asaba intercepted a Toyota Hiace bus at the Head Bridge on 16th October. The driver, Ozoemenam Sylvanus, aroused suspicion during a stop-and-search and was found to be transporting 400 live cartridges concealed inside the vehicle.

According to a police statement, the suspect initially claimed the package contained padlocks, but officers discovered the ammunition during a thorough search. He has been taken into custody as investigations continue into the source and intended destination of the illicit consignment, believed to be bound for Edo State.

In an earlier operation on 10th October, police in Orerokpe arrested 37-year-old Onos Afokoghene, described as a “notorious drug baron” supplying hard drugs in Warri and nearby communities. Acting on a tip-off, CSP Paul Oboware led a team to a flashpoint in Jeddo, where Afokoghene was apprehended after a short chase.

A search of the scene uncovered a substantial quantity of illegal substances, including 3kg of Canadian Loud, 10kg of Indian Hemp, 24 litres of a cannabis-infused gin known locally as “monkey tail”, numerous sachets of Tramadol, and two POS machines suspected of being used for transactions.

CP Abaniwonda has reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to ensuring the safety of residents and appealed for continued public cooperation. He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities via the Command’s distress line: 08036684974.

All suspects remain in custody as police work to dismantle their associated criminal networks.
