THE Delta State Police Command has arrested five suspects and recovered a locally fabricated firearm, two live cartridges, various offensive weapons and illicit drugs in coordinated operations carried out across the state.
The Command said the breakthroughs, recorded within days of the resumption of CP Aina Adesola as Commissioner of Police, reflect a renewed commitment to proactive and intelligence-driven policing aimed at reducing crime and strengthening public safety.
According to the police, operatives of the Ekpan Division arrested a suspected cultist and armed robber, Gift Ojulowo, 30, during an early-morning patrol at Hausa Market, Ubeji, on 10 January 2026.
The suspect was apprehended after attempting to flee alongside other hoodlums on sighting police operatives.
A search allegedly uncovered one locally fabricated gun and two live cartridges hidden in his trousers.
He reportedly admitted membership of the Aye Confraternity, while investigations continue to apprehend other fleeing suspects.
In a related operation, detectives from the Raiders Unit arrested Obi Onuigbi Ndubuoso, 43, on 8 January 2026, following intelligence on the possession and circulation of illicit substances.
Police said a search led to the recovery of 36 bottles of nitrous oxide, popularly referred to as “laughing gas”.
The suspect is being investigated to identify suppliers and distribution channels.
Meanwhile, two suspected armed robbers, Owakwe Chuks, 37, and Bright Moses, 32, were arrested in Agbor on 4 January 2026 over alleged involvement in motorcycle snatching.
The suspects were tracked after investigations into a robbery incident reported on 24 December 2025.
Items recovered from them include a hammer, a short knife, a face mask, a handset and a face cap.
The Command also announced the arrest of a murder suspect, Aliyu Haman, 20, in Ogwashi-Uku, over the alleged killing of his 20-year-old brother.
Police said the victim was stabbed while asleep in the early hours of 8 January 2026 along Poly Road near Adaigbo Filling Station.
The suspect was arrested, and the weapon used was recovered, while the deceased’s body was deposited at Odua Mortuary for autopsy.
Reaffirming the Command’s resolve, CP Aina Adesola assured residents that the police would continue to deploy intelligence-led operations and visible patrols to ensure the protection of lives and property across Delta State.
All suspects and exhibits remain in police custody as investigations are ongoing.
