Son Allegedly Sets Elderly Father Ablaze In Delta Community

TRAGEDY struck Oghior Community in Udu Local Government Area of Delta State on Wednesday following an incident in which a young man, identified as Saturday Okutu, allegedly set his elderly father, Pa Chicago Okutu, on fire.

Witnesses said the incident followed a violent confrontation involving the suspect.

A community source disclosed that the young man was allegedly under the influence of hard drugs, popularly known as “Colorado”, at the time.

According to accounts from residents, the situation escalated into a physical attack, during which the suspect allegedly set the family house ablaze, leading to the death of the aged man.

The incident has plunged the community into mourning and has renewed concerns over the growing abuse of hard drugs among youths in rural communities.

Speaking on the development, the immediate past President General of Oghior Community, Moses Uchere Esq, condemned the act and called for urgent measures to address drug abuse, including increased awareness and preventive interventions to avert further loss of lives.

Stonix News gathered that community authorities are preparing to investigate the incident as more details continue to emerge.

The Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, has yet to respond to the incident.
