A married woman has allegedly assaulted a 17-year-old girl with a razor blade in Taraba State, following accusations that the teenager was having an affair with her husband.
The incident involved Mrs Ramatu Abbas of Donga Local Government Area, who is said to have attacked Iwasen Terhemba, a minor.
Local sources report that Mrs Abbas believed the teenager was involved with her husband. However, it is alleged that Mr Abbas had repeatedly propositioned the teenager, who refused his advances, citing his marital status and her own age.
Reports indicate that upon learning of the alleged propositions, Mrs Abbas began issuing verbal threats against the girl. Concerned for her ward’s safety, the teenager’s guardian, Jemila Savalla Wanga, reportedly approached the woman to explain that it was Mr Abbas who had been persistently harassing the minor and urged her to intervene.
Residents state that Mrs Abbas later went to the girl’s home and carried out the razor blade attack, inflicting injuries to her face.
It is further disclosed that the attacker allegedly warned the victim and her guardian against reporting the incident to the authorities, insisting the matter be “settled at home.”
The incident has reportedly sparked outrage within the community, with residents calling for justice and greater protection for minors against abuse and violence.
The Taraba State Police Command, through its Public Relations Officer, Victor Mshelizah, has confirmed the incident.
Meanwhile, police authorities in Donga Local Government Area stated the attacker has been charged before a magistrate’s court in Donga.
“Yes, the attacker is in our custody, and from our investigation, the young girl has nothing in common with Mr Abbas. In fact, our findings revealed that Abbas had even attempted to rape her some time ago, but she resisted,” said the Divisional Police Officer (DPO).
“The young girl is innocent. We have charged the attacker, Mrs Ramatu Abbas, to court. It is not a matter to take to headquarters; she will be prosecuted here. The victim is currently receiving medical care at a nearby clinic,” the DPO confirmed.
