IN a shocking attack, suspected bandits set fire to a police station and part of a church in the Agwara community of Niger State in the early hours of Sunday.

Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Wasiu Abiodun, stated that the assault occurred at approximately 3:40 a.m. when the bandits stormed the Agwara Police Station.

Despite the swift response from the police tactical team, the attackers overpowered the officers and used what is believed to be dynamite to set the station alight.

Following the destruction of the police station, the bandits proceeded to the United Methodist Church (UMC) in the area, where they set part of the church building on fire.

The police spokesperson also reported that the attackers then moved through other parts of the community, abducting five residents. Their identities remain unknown at this time.
