Sokoto Police Arrest Man for Alleged Killing of 15-Year-Old Wife

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

OPERATIVES of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected armed robbers and motorcycle snatchers, recovering a locally made cut-to-size gun and two live cartridges, in a series of successful anti-crime operations across the state.

In a separate incident, officers also recovered a stolen Toyota Sienna bus laden with suspected vandalised items, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.

Armed Robbery and Motorcycle Snatching Suspects Apprehended

On 31 March 2026 at approximately 7:45pm, police officers from the Agbor Division, led by the Divisional Police Officer (DPO), were conducting stop-and-search duties at College Junction, Agbor, when they intercepted two men on a motorcycle.

The suspects — identified as Julius Godday, 31, and Mzemeke Peter, 28 — attempted to flee upon spotting the officers but were swiftly pursued and apprehended. A search of their persons yielded one locally made, cut-to-size double-barrelled gun loaded with two live cartridges.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that both suspects are members of the Eiye confraternity and are believed to be behind a spate of motorcycle snatching incidents in the area. They have since confessed to the crimes, police said.

The suspects remain in custody, and the case is set to be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Asaba for further discreet investigation and possible prosecution.

Stolen Vehicle with Vandalised Items Recovered

In a separate development on 30 March 2026 at around 1:30pm, officers at the Sapele Division received a tip-off from a concerned citizen who reported sighting a Toyota Sienna bus believed to be transporting stolen items, including iron cuts and a gas cylinder.

A patrol team was immediately deployed. However, upon spotting the police, the suspects abandoned the vehicle and fled into a nearby bush. The bus was recovered and towed to the station for safekeeping. A preliminary investigation has since been launched, and efforts to track down the fleeing suspects are ongoing.

CP Commends Operatives, Urges Public Vigilance

The Commissioner of Police for Delta State, CP Yemi John Oyeniyi, psc, acipm, mnips, praised the operatives for their swift action and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to flushing out criminal elements from the state.

“We will not relent in our efforts to ensure the safety of lives and property across Delta State,” CP Oyeniyi said. “I urge members of the public to remain vigilant and continue supporting the police with credible information.”

Residents are encouraged to report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station.
