Delta Police Nab Suspected Drug Dealer, Recover 21 Bags Of Indian Hemp

THE Delta State Police Command has recorded fresh successes in its war against illicit drug trafficking with the arrest of a suspected drug dealer and the seizure of 21 bags of suspected Indian hemp in separate operations across the state.

The command disclosed this in a press release signed by its spokesperson, SP Bright Edafe, on 10 April 2026.

According to the statement, officers attached to Ugborikoko Division arrested one Evans Emmanuel Akpowene on 8 April along Airport Road, Effurun, after his conduct raised suspicion during routine traffic patrol.

Police said a search of the suspect’s tricycle uncovered a large quantity of suspected illicit substances, including Indian hemp, Canada Loud, Colorado and Monkey Tail.

The suspect and the recovered exhibits, including the tricycle with registration number EFR 173 VD, are currently in custody pending further investigation.

In another operation, operatives of the Dragon Patrol Team intercepted a gold-coloured Sienna bus on 2 April along Ozoro/Kwale Road near Ebendo Community in Ndokwa West LGA.

The driver reportedly fled into the bush on sighting the police, abandoning the vehicle.

A search later revealed 21 bags of substances suspected to be Indian hemp concealed inside the bus.

Police authorities confirmed that the vehicle and exhibits have been recovered, while efforts are underway to track down and arrest the fleeing suspect.

Commissioner of Police, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, praised the vigilance of the officers involved and reaffirmed the command’s determination to rid Delta State of drug-related crimes.

He also appealed to residents, especially youths, to avoid involvement in illicit drug activities and to provide useful information that could assist police operations.
