Delta Police Launch Special Unit To Tackle Violent Crime, Redeploy Tactical Teams

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

THE Delta State Police Command has unveiled a new specialised unit, the Violent Complaint Response Unit (VCRU), to handle high-risk cases such as threats to life, grievous assault, and domestic violence.

Commissioner of Police CP Yemi Oyeniyi said the unit would act as a rapid response and coordination platform, working alongside divisions and tactical teams to ensure swift, professional intervention.

Thirty selected officers have just completed a three-day intensive retraining on legal frameworks, use of force, and firearms handling.

The move follows an IGP directive to boost operational efficiency and accountability.

CP Oyeniyi warned that negligence or human rights abuses would not be tolerated, adding that the command has also reorganised its tactical formations and redeployed personnel.

Residents are urged to report violent incidents through official police channels.
