Delta Police Crack Down on ASABA Road Offenders, 22 Vehicles Impounded

Rita Enemuru, Reporting

POLICE in Delta State have launched an aggressive crime prevention blitz in the state capital, impounding 22 vehicles and arresting three suspects in a single operation aimed at restoring order on the roads and cracking down on lawlessness.

The operation, led personally by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, took place on 8 May 2026.

According to a statement from the command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Edafe Bright, officers drawn from the Department of Operations (DOPS Buffalo), the Special Enquiry Unit, and Operation Delta Shield carried out high-visibility patrols across Asaba metropolis.

Of the 22 vehicles seized, most were impounded for driving unregistered, lacking number plates, driving against traffic, or operating under the influence of alcohol.

The command described the offences as “regulatory breaches” that directly endanger public safety.

Three suspects were also arrested for obstruction and assault on police officers who were merely carrying out their lawful duties.

The Delta State Police Command stressed that its enforcement drive remains firm, professional, and unbiased — regardless of an individual’s status or position.

“The command is committed to proactive policing, public safety, and strict enforcement of extant laws and directives aimed at maintaining peace and order across the state,” SP Bright said in the statement dated 10 May 2026.

Residents have been urged to remain law-abiding and to continue cooperating with the police by providing useful information that could aid crime prevention.

There is no word yet on whether the impounded vehicles will be released upon payment of fines or if court proceedings will follow.
